Cartridge
In one sentence
A Game Boy cartridge is the plastic shell the game lived in. It is about 57 by 65 by 8 millimetres, with the top-right corner cut so it only fits one way.
The detail
The shell is larger than the chip inside. A label sits in a recessed well that is wider than it is tall, and a small arrow below the label shows which way to push. The cut corner keeps you from inserting it backwards.
Retroable can manufacture one cartridge of your game, in a printed box, for the address you enter at checkout. Lifetime includes one. The order is made to that game, so it is not a blank you reuse. How a cartridge order works covers what you receive.
A flash cartridge is a different object: a reusable shell you copy any ROM onto yourself. The one Retroable ships is built for a single game.
Worth keeping
- The shell is about 57 × 65 × 8 mm, with one corner cut
- The label well is a wide landscape shape, not a square
- A Retroable cartridge is made for one game, unlike a flash cartridge you rewrite
Questions
Does it fit an original Game Boy?
Yes. It is the same shell shape the original handheld takes.
Can I put a different game on it later?
No. That is what a flash cartridge is for. This one is made for the game you ordered.
Is the box the same as the cartridge?
No. The cartridge is the module. The box is the printed package around it.
